Shake, Rattle and Roll

Hi everyone!  Holly cow, have you been following the earthquakes and erupting volcanoes around the world lately?  There is something going on big time and I think we are in for some dicey action very soon.

I have been learning all about Geology lately.  I've been checking out books and CD's about volcanoes and have found them to be fascinating! I have also been following some of the earthquakes rattling  the areas around the world.  We have a ton of volcanoes going off all around the world.  One of the most beautiful is located in Iceland.  It is located under a glacier and the glacier ice in and around the crater is slowly melting.  The lava from this volcano doesn't have a huge amount of silica so it has been putting on quite a show.

There have been some earthquakes in Southern Oregon as well that the scientists are keeping an eye on.  I wonder if we will soon see a big quake there or some other form of activity.  Only time will tell.

We were to have gone on a Big Foot hunt a few months back but it never got to take place.  I had some health issues that came up and the new cabin or should I say "money pit" kept us here in Montana.  We have been spending a great deal of time up there working on it, laying carpet and cleaning up.  The roof was seriously damaged by a hail storm and needed to be replaced.  There was so much to do at the cabin that we had a long talk and decided that we would stay home this year.  It is looking quite nice up there but be have had a very difficult time getting someone to work on the roof of the cabin and the pole barn.  Two companies pulled out at the last minute and left us without a new roof.  Then, just a few days ago, the temperature plummeted and we had snow.  None of us were ready for this to happen.  It has been bitterly cold here and we have been staying close to home.

My company sold our building and moved us across town to a cleaner and more secure location albeit we are now sharing offices 3 to 4 to a room.  It has been a challenge to not step on toes and get used to working together.  My office mates are all great and one will only be with us until January.  She has been with the Mental Health Center here in Billings Montana for over 28 years and will be retiring.  Work has been quite difficult lately.  I've had to deal with some very sick individuals and it is sometimes very hard to keep them stable.  It wouldn't be so hard if I didn't like them so much.  I have some very intelligent clients with whom I can have some very wonderful conversations with when they are stable.  Unfortunately, when they are not stable, they are very hard to manage and keep safe.

I haven't been making jewelry lately as my CMC joints are pretty messed up.  I have to wear braces at night when I sleep to keep the swelling at bay and I have to have injections every three to four months at the base of my thumbs to help with the pain.  It affects my grasping of small items so it is very hard to work with the beads and makes tearing apart the old pocket watches very painful.  Hopefully, I can get back to normal soon so that I can work on my hobbies again.

I have had some great times with my little granddaughter and there is word in the wind that another may be on the way.  We don't know for sure right now and my daughter is being closed lipped about it all.  I suspect that we will know for sure around Christmas.

We are hoping to take one small trip before bedding down for the winter. Not sure yet where we will go but we know it will be someplace warm.  The house sitter is  ready to roost as soon as we give the word.

Well everyone, I hope we won't be dealing with fire and ash here in the United States but it's all up in the air right now and with all the earthquakes and mountains going off, who knows?  Alaska is getting their fair share as I write this with Pavlof tossing her cookies!  I hope all of  you have a great Christmas and a very happy New Year!  Cheers! Saturday, May 17, 2014

Well, happy 2014 everyone!  I thought I'd better get to blogging so you all don't think I got buried under all this crazy life has to offer.  Much has happened since the birth of our new granddaughter.  She is already a year old and gaining an attitude.  With two teachers as parents, she is one smart cookie if I do say so myself!

We have a new cabin now.  We spent much of 2013 looking around at many different cabins and locations.  We ended up three miles away from our one that burned down!  This one is much nicer and.....wait for it....has indoor plumbing!  Yes my savvy friends, not one but two bathrooms!  It also has four bedrooms which will allow us to have guests over.  It is truly a genuine log cabin.  We have been steadily working on it every chance we get, tearing out carpet, painting and decorating.  I have a tremendous amount of bare walls to hang my photos.  We ended up keeping the burned land as we now have two wood stoves to gather wood for and the seared wood will burn just fine after knocking off the blackened outer shell.

My husband finally sold his ranch near Miles City Montana.  He had been wanting to sell it for years but couldn't get his sister to agree.  She is part owner.  Finally, she stated she wanted to sell and my hubby jumped at the chance.  He has been cleaning out the old ranch house as the new owners are going to strip it to the 2X4's and rebuild.  There are some nice antiques there and my hubby has been bringing them home.  We will put a few of them at the new cabin to give it a little character.

We have purchased some furniture for the new cabin with the insurance money that my husband received for the one that burned down.  I actually found a couple of second hand chairs that really were very unique. I found a stellar rocking chair with a beautiful pattern on the head rest portion.  We also found a wonderful chair at a used furniture store that is fairly old fashioned but in great condition.  We have a couple of other older chairs that we are going to get recovered and repaired.  One is a rocker from the 1800's!

You have to understand a little about this new cabin to get the jest of the type of furniture that we want to decorate with.  This cabin was built in 1983 so it really isn't that old.  In 1992 it was purchased by a man and his wife who basically wanted to reside there "off the grid" so to speak.  This man was not a friend of the US government and he did not believe in paying his taxes so the IRS took ownership of the cabin in 1993.  However, no one would go up and get the current squatter out of the cabin so he kept living there.  In late 1993, the man had three other men move in with him.  His wife had left him so he had lots of room.  The four of them started a movement in Montana called "The Montana Freemen".  They resided in the cabin until September of 1995 when they moved out and went up to Jordan Montana where the "Freemen 81 Day Standoff" took place.  So as you can see, we purchased a little piece of Montana History!  I have spent some time researching what went on at our new cabin during those years they were there.  There was quite a bit of counterfeiting and had they all stayed there, the Freemen Standoff would have been at our cabin instead of Jordan.  They named our cabin "Redemption Township" and the Jordan Montana location was named "Justus Township".  It's kinda cool knowing our cabin had a history even though I would never condone or believe what the Freemen preached and lived.  We actually purchased the cabin from a retired minister and his wife who resided there for 12 years before they decided they wanted to move into Billings.  We actually had gone and looked at it once before we looked around for a while more.  However, we were both drawn back to this quirky cabin and just knew that we had to have it.  Although my hubby constantly states "there is nothing square in this cabin" as he measures spaces and thinks about what he wants to do with them.

We have quite a few plans for this new cabin.  We are hoping to make it a place that we can go if the "you know what" hits the fan some day.  My hubby is going to have his ham radio tower there and we are going to try to install solar and wind power as alternative emergency power sources.  We are excited about this endeavor and I will keep you well informed of our progress.

We are planning our first and only trip of 2014.  My hubby has gotten to know a man from Washington State who knows a great deal about Bigfoot.  Now my husband is quite sure that these creatures exist.  He believes that he heard one at one time and has had a bucket list desire to go on a hunt.  He has been invited to join this man in Washington to do a little hunt and we are very up for this!  After all, one can combine two favorite pastimes, Geocaching and Bigfoot hunting!  We are only taking one trip due to the fact that we have a lot of important work to do on the cabin and cannot afford to let it sit too long.  We want to have wood cut and all the improvements done on the inside by the time Winter rolls around.

Well, that is my update for this year so far.  I am sure there will be many other interesting things to report as the rest of the year flies by. I truly hope all of you have a great Summer and a safe one as well.  Cheers for now!  Freedancer

Our Angel is Here!

Although a month early, Lydia arrived on 25 March 2013 with all 10 fingers and toes!  She was little and had to spend some time under the UV Billy lights but is now home and growing strong.

What a wonderful gift from God this little baby is!  I feel very blessed to have her in my life.  As I traveled from Billings MT to Bozeman MT to meet her for the first time, I had a whirlwind of feelings surging through my body.  I felt great happiness but a tinge of sadness as well.  I no longer have a little girl.  My daughter is now a mother and will soon be celebrating her very first Mothers Day   Her priorities have now shifted to that of being a mentor and a provider for this tiny gem.

I look forward to sharing nights with this little one.  Wearing funny jammies and eating popcorn while watching silly movies on the TV.  I wonder how she will react when I have to use the dreaded "no" or how I will react when she asks, standing in a stubborn stance, "Grandma!  Why do I always have to do what you say?"  I look forward to sloppy kisses and warm hugs.  I await the times I will have phone calls with a little voice on the end telling me "I love you Grandma!"  I will cherish every scribble that I receive and may have to buy a bigger refrigerator to tape them all too!

For now, I am happy with pictures received over the cell phone and the little coos and cry's  I hear when I call my daughter.  I am convinced she will be a wonderful mother who will teach, protect, care for and love this precious child from God.  I only hope that I can be blessed with plenty of time to watch her grow into the amazing young woman that I know she will be.

As always, until the next time we meet, Cheers!

They're Havin A Baby!

We have the most wonderful news!  I'm going to be a grandmother in April.  My baby is having her own little one in April 2013.  I am so excited that I can hardly stand still!  I am already starting to collect things.  A while back, I asked God to let me see my grand baby.  Everything I have asked for has been given to me.  He is so faithful to me and I am eternally grateful for all He has given.

I don't know how I am going stand waiting 7 1/2 more months.  I wish I was closer to her than 2 hours away because I want to be there for her when she has questions.  My mother and father are excited as well and have plans to come for a visit in May.  I am already planning a baby shower for her here in Billings MT so she can share the good news with her friends that she has here.

They don't want to know if it is a girl or a boy.  They want to be surprised.  She told me about a dream she had however that indicated her first child would be a boy and she was to name him Elijah.  She seems convinced that this will come true.

I'm going to be the best grandmother ever!  Thank you God for this wonderful gift!

With and excited heart!  Freedancer

Our Goal of 2012 Has Been Accomplished

Our last trip of 2012 has come and gone.  We were privileged to complete our set goal of Geocaching in every state!  We spent 16 days on the road, traveling across the United States to reach Delaware and Washington DC.  We chalked up over 5.000 miles total. It was quite the trip and parts of it were eventful at most.

After completing the Montana State Fair in mid August where I walked away with 23 ribbons, we packed the car and headed out across the country.  Of course I was armed with my camera and my travel bug Walter who has been with me for over 8,000 previous miles.  He had a new companion, Jeramey, who began his journeys with us just this year.  We stayed in various KOA Kampgrounds, taking advantage of their cabins and great hospitality.  We also stayed in some motels, some good and some pretty bad.  All in all, we decided that we did better in the KOA Kabins.

While in Illinois I stopped to grab some sand off of the Illinois river.  While there, I also came across a photo op which had me snapping photos of a large barge navigating its way along the shallow river.  During the process of catching this barge on film, I fell over a large cement block which was embedded along the bank to prevent erosion.  Unfortunately for me, I went ass over tea kettle and came down on my hands, knees and on to the camera which proceeded to break.  I was literally in tears for two solid days.  Yes, I was able to use my husbands camera but I was not familiar as to how it worked and missed hundreds of shots trying to make it do what mine could do effortlessly.  I also injured myself to the point that my poor husband got dirty looks from passerby's thinking he had beaten me or something like that.  I had head to toe bruises.  Two days later while walking from our KOA Kabin to the bathroom, I miss navigated the edge of the road and fell down again, injuring the other parts of my poor body that got missed the first time.  I was completely in a state of frustration and disgust at myself.  This was a trip that I had waited over 7 years to complete and it looked like it was going to get the best of me.  However,  things did start to get better.

We made our way to New York to pick up an elusive Geo-coin that we had managed to grab on several other trips.  My husband had made arrangements to retrieve this coin from the current handler.  We would be taking the coin to some other states that it needed.  While there, I set up our route on our car GPS, who is affectionately known as "Doris The Second".  "Doris The First" had a mental breakdown several years ago and was presently in lock down at our Montana residence awaiting medical intervention.  Like usual, I placed several way points into the GPS to track our route.  What we forgot to do however, was to not follow the directions into the cities that I had marked.  We ended up deep into Midtown New York on a very dark and late night.  It took over an hour of driving in circles and several PTSD panic attacks on my part before I realized that I needed to remove the way point from the GPS so she could lead us out to the interstate.  Doris kept running us in circles to the center of Midtown where it's night residents were beginning to suspect that we were "not from around there".  After spending 15 minutes parked in the local police stations lot, I reprogrammed sweet Doris and she led us out of one of the most notorious inner cities in the United States.

We finally made it to Delaware on 3 September 2012.  We highfived  each other while under the watchful eye and occasional snarl of a local watchdog at a nearby home.  After we got our photos, we made our way to our first Delaware cache and the "caching in all 50 states" goal was sealed.  We had plans to do more caching the next day as well as make our way to Washington DC to add that to our list.  We stopped at a local motel and got a room for the night as my husband wanted to watch the completion of a series on television that we had watched the previous evening.  Prior to the start of the show, we stopped at a local pizza place and order a pizza to eat while enjoying the show.  We ordered our usual pizza, half mushroom and cheese and half hamburger and cheese and made arrangements to have it delivered to our room.  We were flabbergasted when the food arrived.  We opened the box and found an all cheese pizza and a second container of a cheese burger!  My husband promptly returned the food and asked that it be remade.  The manager laughed and stated that he had misunderstood us and delivered the second pizza himself in person.

After the show was over, I walked out to the car to retrieve an item that I forgot and to my dismay, Walter and Jeramey were both gone!  I rushed into the motel room and asked my husband if he had seen them.  He stated that he had not and we proceeded to search the car and motel room inside and out.  We did not find them and concluded that the only place that he could have been left was at the geocache site we were at over 4 hours ago.  I went strait into panic mode.  How could I be so stupid as to leave Walter in some strange place?  I imagined rabid dogs pulling his little limbs off and tearing off his sweater.  My husband stated immediately, "We gotta go back and get Walter!" and so we did.  We programmed the geocache back into Doris and headed out.  It was 12:45 pm but we didn't care, we were on a rescue mission.  Although it was only 4 miles away from the hotel, it seemed like a lifetime of driving.  I prayed so hard that my folded hands hurt.  As we drove up to the site, I closed my eyes tightly because I didn't want to see the result of leaving this unique fellow all alone for 4 hours in the dark and rain.  There he was!  He was sitting in the chair were I left him when I was taking pictures to mark the completion of our goal.  I grabbed him, thanking God for keeping him safe.  He was fine and none less for wear albeit he had a little rain on his balled head.  Walter is a replica of Jeff Dunhams's  puppet of the same name.  He has been to Alaska, Hawaii and our Southeast trips as well as some smaller ones.  He is a very special travel bug and has racked up well over 8,000 miles.  He does speak of you push his hand.  I told him how sorry I was and asked "will you forgive me for leaving you here?  I am so sorry Walter".  I pushed his hand and he promptly stated "You're an idiot!"  There was no way that I was going to argue with that analysis.  Lets just say, he didn't go out of my sight for the rest of the trip.

The next day, we made our way around Delaware grabbing a few caches and made our way to Washington DC.  It really wasn't that far away according to the map but we were in for a rude awakening. It seems as though it takes much longer to go short distances back east.  We traveled several hours to go less than 100 miles!  At one point, there was a massive traffic jam that was caused by travelers coming home from a long weekend away and doing this on several freeways that all came together.  It must have taken 3 hours to get through this jam but we made it out in one piece and rolled into Washington DC with a little extra time to spare.  We took our photos, repaired the cache we came to find and rolled on out.  I told my husband that he'd better not take me by the White House as I was afraid that I would reach through the gates and choke the living be-Jesus out of  our useless "Commander and Chief".  Needless to say, we gave the White House a wide birth indeed.

With our mission completed, we programmed our route home to Montana.  We made sure the coin that we retrieved from New York made it to some of the states it needed and pointed our weary noses toward home.  We arrived back on 9 September 2012 at 8:00 pm.  I hurried around bringing things into our house as I had to get up for work the next day.  Then, as I started to step out of the house to move my car back into it's spot in front, I missed the top step of our porch stairs and proceeded to fall all the way down, bouncing like a rag doll off of the pavement.  I laid there in severe pain and slightly dazed.  My husband rushed over to see if I was ok which obviously, I was not.  I ended up with several bruised ribs and a severely sprained big toe.  This was the last straw!  How I could travel over 5,000 miles and injure myself three times was beyond me!  I hobbled into the house and spent the next few hours under ice.

All in all, the trip was pretty good.  Now that we have met this 7 year goal, we can take our time and pick a place to actually set our trailer down in and spend some quality time exploring.  The big advantage is that we have the coin and it needs to go to Alaska, Hawaii and New England.  Looks like we will have to make a few trips abroad to assist in obtaining the needed miles.  We have plans to go back to New England when we can take more time and also go back to Hawaii and possibly Alaska but for now, we sit here with wide grins on our faces, basking in the light of completing our 7 year goal.  Interestingly enough, it turns out that we are the first people in Montana to Geocache in all 50 states and that's a pretty fantastic accomplishment in our book!

As ever, Cheers!   Freedancer

The Loss of Fond Memories

June of 2012 was sad for us.  Our cabin in the Bull Mountains near Roundup Montana burned to the ground during a series of wild fires in Montana.  This cabin has been in the family for over 40 years.  It housed much of my husbands ham radio equipment and furniture left to him by his mother and grandmother.  Everything was lost in this massive fire.  Were our cabin was situated, two fires merged together.  My husband is quite devastated with this loss.  He spent two long years building this cabin with his own two hands.  There were times when his five sons and his father also assisted him.

We have questioned over and over since that June day.  Why did God let this happen?  What was He trying to tell us and what are we to do now?  So far, those answers have not been discovered.  We do not blame God for this disaster.  No, it has actually brought us closer to Him.  We see some of the areas in our life that we have locked God out of that we need to unchain these areas and allow Him to work his love.  63 other structures were lost as well and we have deep sadness for all of the other fire victims.  Some are rebuilding and some have chosen not to.

Possessions can disappear in a blink of an eye.  They can be lost through theft, not being a good steward of your finances, through divorce, death, fire, flood and other disasters.  What we have to remember here is that we need to be right with God in spite of the losses.  If our souls are not part of Gods kingdom, no amount of personal possessions will secure it.  Only our love for God and knowing that Jesus died on the cross for all of us is what really matters.  Perhaps that is what God has been trying to tell us.  We put our possessions before Him rather than thanking Him for them and using what we have been given to help others find their way to Him.

Yes, we lost many memories and possessions in the Bull Mountain fires this summer but we know that we are children of Jesus Christ and that is something that cannot be destroyed by fire.

In Christs precious love,  Freedancer

Here's to 2012

Well here we are, well into 2012 already.  Where does the time go?  We had our first trip of the year to California to visit Mom and Dad Greenleaf in Hemet.  The weather was pretty rainy and cold this time around.  My mom said that it was unusual for this much rain to fall in Hemet.  We did a little geocaching on the way down and while there.  After a few days, the sun came out finally.  For the second time, I ended up sick for about half the trip.  As soon as I got into California, I got stuffy and very sick.  We have come to the conclusion that this has to be an allergy of some sort.  The same thing happened to me the last time in California.  It was good to see the folks and visit with them.  They were getting ready to head back to Washington shortly after we left.  Before leaving for Hemet, I moved from my job with Riverstone Health back to the main Mental Health Center here in Billings.  Riverstone lost the contract for the SDMI program which was a Medicaid program for the Mentally Ill.  I was pretty bummed that I had to move back to Mental Health due to the fact that I once again had to start counting units.  It is very stressful and I have become very tired from all of it.  I will be having my left shoulder repaired in December.  The tear in the rotator cuff has gotten to the point of where it is constantly hurting me and I am losing range of motion.  What really sucks is that we no longer have sick time through my employer.  They have gone to strictly Paid Time Off (PTO).  We have to use this PTO for everything now.  I have started coming to work sick because I can't afford to lose all my vacation time for sick time and appointments.  I have to wait until December to have my arm repaired because I do not have enough PTO to cover the surgery recovery time.  I will get my new time in December.  There is a lot of stuff that has happened since the three years I was gone to the other job.  I was actually assigned to the Mental Health Center for the whole three years but worked off site at Riverstone.  Since that time, they moved into a new building where we work with 22 other people in one big room.  We have cubical s there.  They are very small and there is no place to hang photo's or anything.  We have to do our own cleaning as the janitors are not allowed into that office space.  I lost my computer that I had at my other job and have to share them now with the other 22 people.  All of this change was difficult for me to adjust to and for the first few months, I felt out of place and basically useless.  It is a little better now except I can't quite get up to speed on the units.  It is a job though and I am thankful for it.

We are planning to grab the elusive Delaware this year for the last of the 50 states that we have geocached in.  We are thinking that we better grab this state very soon and get it off the bucket list.  After we get it, we will set out sights on Canada.  My little internet business hasn't quite caught on yet.  I just don't want to give up yet.  I moved over to Etsy and gave Intuit the boot.  I was being charged $52.00 per month and no one was seeing my site.  things are much better with Etsy.  The market is so saturated however, that it is hard to sell anything.

My beautiful and talented daughter graduated from Montana State University College in Bozeman on the 5th of May 2012.  I am so incredibly lucky to have this wonderful woman in my life.  She now will start another chapter of her amazing life as an elementary teacher.  The children she will teach will be the luckiest on this Earth!  She graduated with honors and I could not be any prouder than I am at this moment!

This is a very important election year.  We must all get out in November and vote Obama out of office.  If he gets another 4 years, we will surely become a socialist nation.  He is everything that is bad for the United States.  He has no sense of business, doesn't care for our military men and women and portrays himself as a narcissistic, self centered man who doesn't deserve one more minute in office.  If you do anything at all this year, vote him out!

That's all for now, I will write more after our trip to Delaware.  Cheers!  Freedancer
